Untreated water in toilets, can’t bear stench, say Ramprastha City residents
GURUGRAM: Residents of Ramprastha City, a residential township in Sector 37 D, said that untreated water is being supplied to their households for the past one month.
They alleged that the sewage treatment plant (STP) has not been functioning properly since 2017 and despite several complaints to the developer, department of town and country planning (DTCP) and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), nothing has been done to resolve the issue.
The residents claimed that the untreated water, which is being supplied to their toilets, doesn’t meet permissible limits and the stench makes it impossible to live inside their homes.
Ankur Bishnoi, a resident of the society, said, “Water is not being treated properly before supplying it to our homes. It has a pungent smell and it is difficult to even sit in our own home. This could pose a serious health hazard for the residents if no corrective action is taken.”
The residents said that a STP with a capacity of 900 KLD was installed in 2017 to cater to more than 1,200 families of Atrium, View and Edge condominium of the township. Sachin Kumar, RWA general secretary of Ramprastha Atrium, said, “I moved here in March 2017 and since then we have been facing issues with the STP’s functioning. There is no regular monitoring of the plant by the management and no regular cleaning of overhead tanks. We have even filed a complaint with the CMO but to no avail.”
However, the developer refuted the allegations and said that the STP is fully functional and it is in full compliance of environmental norms and government guidelines.
Sanjay Chaudhary, general manager of Ramprastha, said, “There is no issue with the operation of the STP. As per government norm, we have to use the treated water for flushing and horticulture purposes. The maintenance agency has received complaints from residents and has already started cleaning of overhead tanks, which is part of regular maintenance work. We are also working to upgrade the process and have hired a new vendor.”
