News: Gurugram: Long outages in Sector 9A due to heavy rain, say residents-21-07-2021
GURUGRAM: Residents of Sector 9A have been facing power outages since 5am on Monday following heavy downpour.
They said discom officials were able to only partially restore power supply around 11.30pm, but several households were still without electricity on Tuesday.
With no electricity, water supply has also been affected in the area, residents said, alleging that there was no response to repeated calls to DHBVN’s toll-free number.
“The situation is completely pathetic as there is no electricity since 5am on Monday. There was no drinking water supply while our house was flooded due to the rains. We are senior citizens and living alone without power and water supply is really difficult to manage,” said Naresh Kumar, a resident.
Residents alleged that DHBVN failed to prune tree branches before the onset of monsoon and the overgrown branches fall on power lines during the rainstorm, causing power cuts.
Sukhdev Singh, who lives in the sector, said: “It’s been 36 hours and several houses are still without electricity. The toll-free number remained busy all day while calls to officials went unanswered.”
Meanwhile, residents of Zara Aavaas in Sector 104 staged a protest against the discom and blocked traffic movement at Daultabad flyover on Monday night after facing over a day of outages. Hemant Sharma, a resident, said, “There was no power from 3am on Monday till around 5am on Tuesday morning. There were several outages after that as well.Over 600 families live in the society.”
When contacted, DHBVN superintending engineer Manoj Yadav said, “There was a fault in the disc of the power line at three locations. The power supply in a majority of the area was restored by Monday night.”
