News: RWAs oppose nod for health facilities in housing colonies-21-08-2023

Several RWAs in the city have unanimously opposed the plan of allowing healthcare facilities in residential areas and demanded that the recently approved change of land use (CLU) for setting up the facility in South City 2 should be revoked.

The discussion was held at the RWA mahapanchayat in South City 2 which was attended by representatives of over 50 RWAs, who said the authorities should not commercialise residential areas. They have submitted a memorandum to CM Khattar seeking a stay on approving CLU for medico-assisted living facility.

The policy came into force in August 2021 and allows establishments of assisted living facilities on a residential plot of 500sqm to 1 acre under the same ownership with an access from a 10-metre-wide road. Further, there is no limit on the number of such establishments in a sector.

Neeraj Yadav, RWA president of South City 2, said that they had bought the property in a residential area keeping in mind the peace but all will be destroyed if such establishments start to flourish. “There are already many infrastructural issues and the upcoming structures will worsen the parking problem, traffic congestion, bio-hazardous waste generated from such facilities, and the safety and security of the colony. It was decided to form a committee of 21 members in the mahapanchayat and this committee will further decide our next course of action,” he said.

Opposing the government policy, Rajkumar Yadav, RWA president of Sector 46 said, “This is a move out of pure commercial motive by the government as the area has abundant hospitals providing world class medical facilities.”

Last week too, residents had protested against the construction of a four-storey healthcare facility in C block of South City-2.
