The department of town and country planning (DTCP) has sought suggestions from other agencies for planning measures to ensure safety and tackle pollution during the demolition of five towers in that failed safety test. The town planner has compiled and submitted a report to the district administration on Wednesday.

According to a senior official, the key concerns about demolition of five towers — D, E, F, G and H —in Sector 109 township are pollution, disaster management and fire safety among others. We have taken suggestions from the concerned departments such as police, fire, disaster management and PWD in an attempt to minimise pollution and ensure the towers are brought down in the safest possible way, he said.

The developer has already roped in demolition firm Edifice, initiated the process and shared a detailed plan with the authorities. According to the plan, the entire demolition will be carried out in around eight months. In the first phase, which is being carried out now, the contractor will remove doors, windows, plumbing and electrical

accessories, thereafter the manual demolition of water tanks on top of towers will be carried out. In the next phase demolition of highrise towers will be carried out and secondary demolition of towers will be carried out by June 20. The site will be cleared by December 15.

The demolition contractor will deploy high-end machines with jaw crusher technology to demolish the towers as these are safe and have the highest reach in the country, according to the plan. As far as removal of debris from the demolition site is concerned, it will be disposed properly at a MCG site as per the guidelines and measures will be taken to minimise dust pollution and ensure safety of residents and adjoining structures.

Spokesperson for the developer said “We have received permission from the district administration for demolition of Tower D, while the permissions for other towers are expected soon. At the moment, only removable items are being shifted from the towers, but actual demolition process is yet to begin”.

A portion of the living rooms of five flats caved in vertically at Tower D of Paradiso on the evening of February 10, 2022, killing two residents.

The Haryana govt asked IIT Delhi to carry out a structural audit of Paradiso. The investigation found the presence of high amounts of chloride in concrete, which were found to have accelerated corrosion throughout the building.
