News: Two illegal buildings razed, 14 plots sealed in Saraswati Kunj-24-08-2024
: A large-scale sealing and demolition drive was conducted in Saraswati Kunj on Aug 22 and 23. Two under-construction structures were demolished, while 14 other plots, where commercial activities were going on, were sealed. The operation was part of an ongoing effort by GMDA) and Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to curb unauthorised construction and illegal commercial activities in the area. According to RS Batth, the duty magistrate for this operation, any construction in Saraswati Kunj Colony without an approved plan is prohibited.

After having subjected several of these properties to demolition earlier, the enforcement team removed encroachments along the service road adjacent to Golf Course Road.
"Stalls, street vendors, and illegally constructed ramps extending from properties were cleared during the operation," said an official. The colony's administrator is the deputy commissioner, while the ownership status of many plots remains unclear. Therefore, any construction without approved plans is illegal. Established in 1983, Saraswati Kunj has been under legal scrutiny since 2004 when the cooperative group allegedly promised allotment to 9,000 applicants despite the colony's capacity of 4,000.
