News: FIRs set to be filed against 214 in Gurugram over illegal housing colonies & eateries-27-10-2025
GURUGRAM: Coming down heavily on illegal colonies, unauthorised dhabas and warehouses, the district town planner has recommended registration of 15 FIRs against 214 people.
While 11 FIRs were recommended against 208 landowners involved in illegal plotting on 23.55 acres of land, four additional FIRs were proposed against six individuals for constructing unauthorised dhabas and warehouses within restricted zones, according to district town planning and enforcement (DTPE) officials.
The large-scale violations fall under the purview of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975 and the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act, 1963.
Town planner Amit Madholia said the department had first issued show-cause notices to all landowners involved in illegal land development. When the replies failed to satisfy the department, restoration orders were issued, instructing that the land be returned to its original agricultural form.
However, as most violators ignored the orders, the DTPE conducted multiple field inspections and subsequently launched demolition drives in the affected areas. With violations confirmed on ground, the matter has now been formally referred to Haryana State Enforcement Bureau for FIR registration and criminal proceedings.
Departmental investigations revealed widespread illegal developments in Farrukhnagar, Dhankot, Jatauli, Bhodakalan, Baghnaki and Pataudi villages. According to the revenue records, about 208 landowners participated in unauthorised subdivision and sale of agricultural land without govt permission.The majority of violations were traced to Pataudi and Farrukhnagar blocks, where the DTPE found large-scale plotting activities and sale of plots without licences or infrastructure clearance, directly violating state urban planning norms.
Apart from illegal colonies, the department also uncovered unauthorised commercial activities violating the Controlled Areas Act, 1963. These include Sanwaria Dhaba in Sidhrawali village, Khushhal Hotel in Bhodakalan and two illegally constructed warehouses owned by Rajendra and Ratanpal.
DTPE has recommended four FIRs against the individuals responsible, asserting that such commercial operations in restricted zones pose safety and regulatory challenges.
