News: Extend Airport metro to new Gurugram, RWAs tell minister-28-10-2028

GURUGRAM: RWA representatives from new sectors met Union minister and MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Monday and urged him to push for an extension of Delhi Airport Metro line to new Gurgaon, covering sectors along the Dwarka e-way corridor.

They also sought bus services connecting Gurgaon with Yashobhoomi and Dwarka Sector 24, to ensure last-mile connectivity for daily commuters. RWA representatives pointed out that there are limited transport options in new sectors despite rapid urbanisation and rising housing density along Dwarka Expressway. Enhanced connectivity, they said, would not only reduce dependency on private vehicles but also provide residents with easier access to Delhi and the airport.

"Currently, there is no public transportation in this part of the city. By integrating metro connectivity with the growing residential and commercial hubs along Dwarka Expressway, the corridor can become a sustainable mobility spine for Delhi-NCR, supporting both environmental and economic goals," said Sunil Sareen, vice president of Emaar Imperial Gardens RWA.Dharam Veer Singh, RWA president of Mapsko Casabella, said, "With thousands of families now settled here, the absence of a metro link is a major gap. The Airport Metro extension will not just cut travel time to Delhi but also ease traffic on internal roads that are already overburdened."

Singh assured the delegation that their concerns were well-founded and said he had already taken up the matter at the central level.Earlier this month, Singh wrote a letter to Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar, urging him to direct officials to expedite the framework for connecting Delhi Airport Metro and Dwarka Metro routes with Gurgaon along Dwarka Expressway.

In the letter, Rao highlighted that the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed metro line connecting Airport Metro to IFFCO Chowk via Gurgaon's Sector 22–23 is under consideration. He noted that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was asked to finalise alignment details, and discussions were underway to link the Dwarka Expressway metro corridor with the existing Airport Metro.

Rao also emphasised in his letter the need to synchronise the new Gurgaon metro corridor with the Dwarka Expressway, given the numerous residential sectors developing along this stretch. He suggested that this integration could provide residents living near Vatika Chowk, SPR and NPR with a direct and seamless metro route to Delhi.
