CHANDIGARH: Police arrested a builder declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in seven cases of cheating from near the Chandigarh-Mohali border on Thursday.
Tejinder Pal Setia, a resident of Mohali and director of Mona Greens Township Private Limited, was absconding since 2016. He was wanted by Chandigarh and Delhi Police in more than 50 cases.
Twenty cases of forgery are pending in the district and consumer courts in the city. The forum had declared him a PO and issued non-bailable warrants against him.
The accused had been convicted in four cases. The PO cell received a tip-off the accused was coming from Delhi. A naka was laid and he was caught.
Cops said Setia had duped hundreds of people on the pretext of selling them flats in Mohali and investing in property business. Later, investors had filed cases against him in the district consumer forum. The UT district consumer redressal forum remanded him in judicial custody till August 27.
